Fiji Time

Well, it seems that we’ve adapted well to the phrase “Fiji Time” because this will be our first official post. Fiji time really means…no time. We’ve rested more this past week than I believe we have in the past year. We arrived in Fiji Tuesday, January 12 at 5 am. It feels like ages ago that we arrived, but really it has only been a week. We did enough the first day in Fiji to account for a couple days. We went into town, the beach, and a few runs to the grocery store. However, we managed to squeeze in some local brew and fresh papaya given to us from a local farmer.

This is a sugar cane field near the beach in Nadi, Fiji. It’s one of the main crops planted in Fiji.

The day ended with a haircut for Ross from the co-owner of the hostel where we stayed. The first day’s temperature was 31 degrees Celsius, which we figured was around 90 degrees Fahrenheit. If anyone knows how to calculate Fahrenheit to Celsius…let us know. Needless to say, it was hot and we had just come from negative temperatures in Minnesota and 3 feet of snow. So, a haircut for Ross was needed.

We can’t believe we’ve started our big adventure, but we’re thankful for these 2 weeks in Fiji to break us in a bit. So far, it’s made us pretty excited for the rest of our time here and what’s just around the corner!
